Assessments in Calgary

The following is a general guideline of the assessment options we offer at Acorn Psychology, and how many hours are needed to complete each assessment (Note: length of testing varies from individual to individual).

Based on interviews, observations, or test results, your psychologist may recommend additional assessments to explore areas that were not originally selected or requested. These will always be discussed with you prior to proceeding.

If Autism or ADHD is being considered as part of an assessment, especially in younger children, we may also recommend a 1-hour observation at daycare, preschool, or school. Please note that travel time for this observation will be added to the session time.

Additional Notes for Adult Assessment

We may ask a trusted person who knows you well to complete a questionnaire as part of the assessment. Ideally, this could be someone who has known you since childhood, as many of the conditions we assess for (like ADHD or Autism) require evidence of traits that began early in life.

That said, we fully recognize that this isn’t always possible. We understand that family dynamics or personal circumstances may mean that there isn’t someone available who knows you well now, or who knew you in childhood. This is something we can talk through together during your intake, and we will always work with you to find the most supportive and appropriate way to complete the assessment, based on your situation.

Additionally, if you happen to have any documentation from the past (like old report cards, IEPs, or evaluations), those can also be helpful — but may not be required.
